WHY

The Weight Management Institute was created to address the link between obesity and premature aging. An overweight condition significantly impacts the quality and the length of life. The damaging effects associated with excessive body fat are a definite factor in overall wellness, physical appearance, self-esteem and longevity, while the portion of world population in this category is staggering. Co-morbidity exists with obesity and most degenerative diseases, which are the primary cause of early aging, loss of youthful beauty and pre-mature death. If we educate people to stabilize at an ideal weight, we will be helping a significant share of civilized humanity to live a longer and more enjoyable life. Imagine the entire populace at an optimally healthy body weight. Degenerative disease would be practically non-existent and everyone would look and feel their very best. That’s the Vision. The Mission is to create the resources to make a difference toward the realization of this idealistic goal.

My life began on December 10, 1936, a time when health awareness was not so popular. Finding organic foods and a good gym for a workout was a challenge in those day. Then in the mid 1950’s an intuitive instinct of self-preservation took over as my passion in life, as well as the realization that we have nothing without vibrant health and the joys of youth. Even wealth is not  the answer to contentment if we are tortured by illness. I began to wonder about and study the reasons why we lose our youthful beauty and vitality at such an early age.

I found that the key factors involved with the quality and length of life are in our control. Illness, accelerated aging and premature death are largely due to degenerative diseases and are mostly the result of damaging lifestyle habits. So, is there a method by which deterioration, aging can be significantly slowed down or even reversed? I  have developed a system of living for regaining youthful qualities and offer myself as proof. At 88 years of age, my performance and some say my physical appearance, has not dramatically changed since I was 40. By systematically and progressively identifying harmful lifestyle behaviors, one by one, and replacing them with positive habits, we can progressively attain ideal body weight and optimal health. This involves gaining the necessary knowledge and applying it and then gaining more knowledge and apply it and continuing to do so endlessly. As organic entities, we grow or die, improve or decline. A paradigm shift in core values is needed. It takes the decision to make vibrant health the number one priority. This takes strong commitment, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Life is a work in progress, when the true self evolves and the beauty and joys of becoming more youthful begin to surface, discipline is replaced with jubilant motivation and each day is met with pleasurable expectation. Living mindfully in the moment, while enjoying a healthful and energetic existence creates true happiness and contentment.

Sabbaticals were traditionally offered to academic professors who were thought to be leaders and were given a year off every seven years for rest and to facilitate advancement in knowledge. In recent years sabbaticals have expanded beyond academia to include all professionals, valued members of executive teams and anyone who sees the value of an extended period away from work to unwind and focus on self-development. Shorter getaways with more flexibly timed agendas are now popular. There are no specific time guideline, just an extensive break from the routine to rest, gain perspective and seek improvement.

There are three types of sabbaticals

Work Holiday Sabbaticals are a combination of relaxation, rest and work characterized by intense periods of activity on passionate projects.

Free Dive Sabbaticals during which participants leap out of work to dive straight into intense exploration in hope to find a more authentic life path.

Medical Profession Sabbaticals are becoming more common and are being used in intense subfields such as emergency medicine to reduce physician burnout.

Winds of Change Sabbaticals are a hybrid mixture. The passionate project is getting into prime physical, mental and spiritual condition, intensively exploring true potential and urgently pushing limits because living with an overweight condition is intolerable.

Aletheia – Greek Mythological Goddess - Spirit of Truth

Prometheus the potter, who gave shape to our new generation, decided to sculpt the form of Aletheia (Truth) so that she would be able to regulate people‘s behavior. As he was working, an unexpected summons from mighty  Jupiter called him away. Prometheus left cunning Dolus (Trickery, Deception) in charge of his workshop. Dolus used the time at his disposal to fashion with his sly fingers a figure of the same size and appearance as Aletheia, with identical features. When he had almost completed the piece, which was truly remarkable, he ran out of clay to use for the feet. Prometheus returned and was amazed at the similarity of the two statues and wanted it to seem as if the credit were due to his own skill. Therefore, he put both statues in the kiln, and when they had been thoroughly baked, he infused them both with life. Aletheia (Truth) walked with measured steps while her unfinished twin stood stuck in her tracks. That forgery, the product of subterfuge, acquired the name Mendacinin (Falsehood). Sometimes falsification can start off successful, but the truth is sure to prevail.

The oldest giant sequoia is 3325 years old, is 275 feet tall, has a circumference of 102 feet, weighs 2.7 million pounds and is still alive and growing. It is almost unfathomable that this goliath grew from a tiny seed and took thousands of years to do so. That seed obviously landed in the perfect environment to sustain life and remained stationary while absorbing the benefits of its ideal surroundings. Aside from man’s attacks or natural disaster it would most likely go on indefinitely; immortality.  Organic life naturally regenerates. We are organic. If our environment and lifestyle offered all the necessary factors, optimal conditions, then how long could we actually stay alive and well? Let us use the magnificent Giant Sequoia as a symbol of ultimate sustainability and create the ideal conditions for attaining ultimate vitality and longevity.

THOUGHT

Thought is energy and energy is power, and because all the religions, sciences and philosophies, with which the world has heretofore been familiar, have been based upon the manifestation of this energy instead of the energy itself, that the world has been limited to effects, while causes have been ignored or misunderstood.

For this reason, we have God and the Devil in religion, positive and negative in science, and good and bad in philosophy.

It is in finding the cause whereby we secure health, harmony, abundance, and whatever else may be necessary for welfare and happiness.

Life is expression and it is our business to express ourselves harmoniously and constructively. Sorrow, misery, unhappiness, disease and poverty are not necessities and we can constantly eliminate them.

But the process of eliminating consists in rising above and beyond limitation of any kind. He who has strengthened and purified his thought need not concern himself about microbes, and he who has come into an understanding of the law of abundance will go at once to the source of supply.

It is thus that fate, fortune and destiny will be controlled as readily as a captain controls his ship, or an engineer, his train.
